# Are YouTube Shorts creators cheaper than TikTok creators for the same reach in 2026?

Last updated: November 2, 2026

Neither platform is reliably cheaper for the same reach. A [CreatiCalc update from October 2026](https://creaticalc.com/youtube-shorts-vs-tiktok) estimates Shorts sponsorships at $3.20 to $28 per 1,000 views and TikTok at $5 to $15 per 1,000 followers: different units. The cheaper buy is whichever quote costs less per 1,000 of that creator's own recent views.

This guide shows how the two platforms are priced, how to put both quotes on one cost-per-view basis, and what Storika's own rate data shows for each format.

## How are YouTube Shorts and TikTok creators priced?

YouTube Shorts and TikTok creators are priced on different units, which is why a straight quote comparison misleads. CreatiCalc's model prices Shorts sponsorships on views and TikTok sponsorships on followers, while Later notes that TikTok rates are typically based on a creator's average view count. Either way, the published ranges are estimates, not quotes.

| Platform | Common pricing unit | Typical sponsorship rate |
| --- | --- | --- |
| YouTube Shorts | Per 1,000 views | $3.20-$28 (about 0.4x long-form YouTube) |
| TikTok | Per 1,000 followers | $5-$15 |

Later's 2026 pricing guide (published July 7, 2026) says the same about Shorts from the brand side:

> “These fall in the lower range, similar to TikTok and Reels pricing.”Source: [Later, Influencer Pricing Benchmarks: The Complete 2026 Guide, published July 7, 2026](https://later.com/blog/influencer-pricing-benchmarks-the-complete-2026-guide/)

## How do you compare a Shorts quote with a TikTok quote for the same reach?

To compare a Shorts quote with a TikTok quote for the same reach, convert both to an effective cost per 1,000 views using each creator's own recent views. Follower counts and platform rate cards drop out, and what is left is the price of the reach a brand is actually buying.

1. Ask the creator for the view counts of their last 10 to 20 videos on that platform, or read them from the profile.
2. Take the median, not the average. With only an average-views figure, treat the result as optimistic, since one viral video lifts it.
3. Divide the quote by the median views and multiply by 1,000.
4. Compare the two results side by side.

A worked example: a TikTok creator with 100,000 followers quoting $1,000 (inside the $5 to $15 per 1,000 followers band) whose median video gets 40,000 views costs $25 per 1,000 views. A Shorts creator quoting $600 with a median of 60,000 views costs $10 per 1,000 views, so here Shorts is cheaper. If the TikTok creator's median were 80,000 views ($12.50 per 1,000) and the Shorts creator's 40,000 ($15 per 1,000), TikTok would be cheaper. CreatiCalc frames the same rule for creator earnings:

> “Which pays more depends on how your Shorts views compare with your TikTok followers.”Source: [CreatiCalc, updated October 2026](https://creaticalc.com/youtube-shorts-vs-tiktok)

## What do creators charge per Short and per TikTok?

Per-video quotes give a negotiating anchor, not a per-view answer. In [Storika's creator rate benchmarks](https://www.storika.ai/reports/creator-rate-benchmarks-2026) (750 real creator quotes, updated October 27, 2026), only Korean creators gave enough quotes on these formats to report. They are creators whose main platform is Instagram, and each format is a separate group, not the same creators quoting both:

| Format (Korean creators) | Median quote | 25th-75th percentile | Creators |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| TikTok video | $136 | $77-$884 | 19 |
| YouTube Short | $204 | $136-$493 | 18 |
| Long-form YouTube | $1,224 | $544-$3,912 | 14 |

Because the groups differ, these medians do not show that one platform costs more than the other. They show what a per-video quote in this population looks like. Whether a given quote is a good buy still comes down to the cost-per-view conversion above. The samples are small, so treat them as an anchor, not a rate card.

## When should a brand pick YouTube Shorts over TikTok?

A brand should pick YouTube Shorts over TikTok when the creator's Shorts quote is lower per 1,000 recent views, when the product benefits from search, or when the creator also runs a long-form channel the brand may book later. TikTok is the stronger pick when the brand sells through TikTok Shop and wants affiliate sales on the same video.

- **Shorts:** a path into long-form integrations, and content that keeps surfacing in YouTube search.
- **TikTok:** native shopping through TikTok Shop, commission-based affiliate deals, and faster trend cycles for launches.
- **Both:** ask a creator who posts on both for a cross-post bundle with one rights window, then judge each platform on its own cost per 1,000 views.

## Where does Storika fit when comparing creator costs?

Storika finds creators for a brand campaign by audience, category, country and brand fit, and each creator it finds comes with followers, engagement and average views. Average views are a first screen; for the median the comparison above needs, ask the shortlisted creators for their recent per-video views. Storika's rate benchmarks add a real median quote to anchor the negotiation.

## Frequently asked questions

### Are YouTube Shorts sponsorships cheaper than TikTok sponsorships?

Not reliably. CreatiCalc's October 2026 model estimates put YouTube Shorts sponsorships at $3.20 to $28 per 1,000 views and TikTok at $5 to $15 per 1,000 followers. Those ranges use different denominators, so they cannot be compared directly. The only fair comparison is each quote divided by that creator's own recent views.

### How do I compare a Shorts quote with a TikTok quote?

Ask each creator for the view counts of their last 10 to 20 videos on that platform, take the median, divide the quote by it and multiply by 1,000. That gives an effective cost per 1,000 views on the same basis. If only an average-views figure is available, one viral video can inflate it, so treat the result as optimistic.

### What do creators charge per Short and per TikTok?

In Storika's creator rate dataset (updated October 27, 2026), quotes from Korean creators whose main platform is Instagram had a median of $204 for a YouTube Short (18 creators) and $136 for a TikTok (19 creators). These are two separate groups of creators, not the same creators quoting both, so they set an anchor, not a ratio.

### Is long-form YouTube worth the higher price?

For products that need explanation, it can be. CreatiCalc puts Shorts at about 0.4 times the long-form YouTube sponsorship rate, and in Storika's dataset long-form YouTube quotes from Korean creators had a median of $1,224 (14 creators, a separate group from the Shorts quotes).
